Doctor Forest Jamison returns to his home town in Indiana after ten years of doing good things in bad places. I like this story so far, about an hour left to read, but really feel I have to comment on the sloppy writing & editing. Punctuation is abysmal in most places, quotation marks where they both should and shouldn't be, commas at random, etc. Even a word here & there that doesn't belong and may have been leftover from a first draft and never deleted. This is taking away from both the meaning and enjoyment of the book, so please, dear author, get a better editor in future! That said, still, I like the story and am interested enough to keep going to find what happens to all the characters.Product details

I enjoyed reading this book very much. It left me wanting Forest to do the right thing, and found myself getting upset with him at Times when I thought that he would keep getting himself in deeper trouble. I found the ending a little lacking. I Felt it could have explained more about his life, and what becomes of him. The last chapter was to short. Still a fascinating read. I would recommend it to anyone that likes a good mystery, and what can happen when you try to protect someone you love. You will not be DISAPPOINTED.U
Men will identify with doctor's desire to protect others from knowing how the teen died. Women will identify with the need to know the truth and a mother's desire to protect her son, whether his choices are good or evil. Timely story. Sad. Frightening. Best to leave criminal investigations to sheriff department. I wish the murdered teen had when he found the methamphetamine lab. Then there would have been no story . . . And no regret for the doctor.
A compelling novel in which a doctor, marked by what he has witnessed in urban ERs and Central American jungles, returns to the Midwestern town where he grew up in search of a simple life and the comfort of routine. What he discovers is the presence of an evil greater than anything he has ever seen. His impulsive, loving decision to conceal the true nature of a teen's murder, in the frail hope of protecting the boy's mother from the gruesome knowledge of the manner of her son's death, will have devastating consequences. There are many unexpected turns, but the ending will be a shock to any reader.
I liked his style of writing and the characters were believable but didn't like the way the story was heading in the beginning--I did finish it but felt sad about the outcome.
I was actually relieved when I came to the few minor typos since it broke my intense concentration. Story is not usually my genre and I had to skip over some of the gory elements, but it was certainly a well thought out plot and very well written. Not for the faint of heart!
This has an unusual and engrossing plot, but is sloppily written. It needs an editor. For example I noticed several spelling errors or typos and in one scene the "Doc" arrives at a farm in his "truck" but leaves fifteen minutes latter in "his car" that had been totally wrecked in the previous scene. I considered the Doc to be a fool for his choices of actions. Nevertheless, it was an engrossing "who done it" story.
Where to begin ....
I guess I will begin at the beginning , which for me was slow . At one point I almost ended at the beginning , but something kept me turning the ( ) pages . I am now glad I did .
I began to understand I was struggling with the story being told by a male character - a more factual telling than an emotional one . Somewhere in the middle of the story though I found myself becoming attached not only to the main chatacter , but most of the others as well . Then comes the unspeakable discovery and the main character's bizarre actions , all of which were emotion driven ...I was hooked .
The ending ...man the ending ! Talk about thought provoking !
